created to guard for natural emergencies, and in memory of the tragedy of
Marzabotto in the autumn of 1944. It ends at the Parco dei Laghi di Suviana and
Brasimone, location of two important lake basins, surrounded by woods and
centuries-old chestnut trees, home to many wild animals.
The highest point of
the 120-km route from Bologna (53 m above the sea level) to Riola (250 m above
the sea level) lies at 842 m above the sea level. Most of the road presents few
difficulties, except between San Lazzaro and Croara, Molino del Pero and Monzuno
and between La Quercia and San Martino. There are some sections that have not
been asphalted between Monte Termine and Monte Alcino (as far as the turn-off
for Grizzana Morandi), but the road surface is in condition.
3. VIA TORRENERA
A nature route typical for its woods and
old chestnuts.

Art and
Culture
History and culture for centuries armies,
pilgrims and famous writers have crossed the region of Bologna Valleys. Some of
them have written their experience of travel through these valleys in their
books: Goethe in his "Travelling in Italy", Stendhal in his "Journals", and even
Casanova in his "Memories".
Today it is still possible to travel through these routes full of evidences of the past and rediscover the same places to live a cultural experience and travel back in the past.
You can visit the ruins left by the Etruscans or go through the "Via Flaminia

science and tech
Travelling through the region of
Bologna Valleys in the direction of Florence, you cannot miss visiting the
Mausoleum dedicated to one of the most famous scientist of last century:
Guglielmo Marconi. From the top of these hills he carried out his first
experiments on the radio. You will experience the emotions of these discoveries
by visiting the Museum of the Marconi Foundation, one of the most important
Italian centres for telecommunications.
In these valleys there was a build-up
of the most unaffected scientific experiences, as evidenced by several water
mills, with which our ancestors used to work enthusiastically putting out their
ability. At the Suviana Lake you will notice the dam and the power point, which
turns in electrical energy the simple mechanic produced by the old mills.
You will see the photovoltaic power plant, built near the same lake, to
catch the sun rays, whereas the wind force is caught by the amazing sails of
Monte Galletto.
If you stay longer you can visit the Astronomical Observatory of Monte
Orzale, in the vicinity of Loiano. Through its effective telescope you will see
something you could never imagine.
